Bring on Semenya, Kenya’s juniors cry
World Junior 800 metres silver medallist Gladys Cherono Koech and her junior compatriot, Winnie Chebet, have put their senior opponents on notice, asserting that the battle for the Commonwealth Games title will pit the young against the old.
The two, together with World champion Caster Semenya of South Africa, have an aggregate age of 20 years. They will line up against experienced stars such as defending champion Janeth Jepkosgei, Kenia Sinclair of Jamaica and England’s Jenny Meadows, the World bronze medallist.
