has been what we do; it's what we do best," New Balance's general
manager Tom Carleo told reporters assembled in New York's Armory Track
& Field Center today for a news conference which was broadcast live
by Flotrack.org.  He called the former University of Colorado star, "a
perfect fit for our family."Barringer, 23, who holds the USA
steeplechase record of 9:12.50, was the most sought after female
distance runner to leave the NCAA ranks since Shalane Flanagan in
2004.  Barringer's agent, Ray Flynn, had taken her on the road to meet
the management teams at most of the major shoe companies.  New Balance,
who had Barringer meet with the company's owner Jim Davis first,
apparently impressed her the most."I went on a journey and a
search for a place that really fit who I am and what I want to do, and
the mark I want to make on the running community," Barringer told
reporters wearing a blue-green New Balance top, her long brown hair
falling over her shoulders.  She called it "a seamless fit to come
right in and be part of the family."Under Colorado coach Mark
Wetmore, whom Barringer plans to remain with in Boulder, she set NCAA
records for 1500m (3:59.90), the indoor mile (4:25.91), indoor 3000m
(8:42.03), 5000m (15:01.70), and steeplechase (9:25.54). She also
finished ninth in the 2008 Olympic Games, and fifth at the 2009 IAAF
World Championships in the steeplechase. It was in that world
championships race where Barringer ran 9:12.50, which put her #5 on the
2009 world list.It is Barringer's versatility which makes her
so desirable to a sponsor.  She is competitive at the global level in
at least five standard events on the track (1500m, mile, 3000m, 5000m
and 3000m steeplechase), and can also compete in road races and cross
country.  Moreover, the political science and economics major is also
well-spoken, attractive, and mixes easily with both fans and the
media.  She comes to New Balance with a well-established fan and media
following."In the process of getting to know Jenny it was
really more Jenny as a person that was such an amazing synergy, and an
amazing fit for New Balance," Carleo said.Barringer said that
she did not plan to run indoors this season, but would rather open-up
outdoors.  She also said that she was still in the process of
discovering what her best event might be, and was excited about the
freedom of being outside of the regimented NCAA system."I think it's really important for me to explore the possibility to explore a lot of different events," she said.Barringer said that her visit to New York today was only her second.  The previous trip had nothing to do with running."This is my second time really in the city," Barringer said. "I was here last weekend.  I had to buy a wedding dress."Barringer plans to marry fiancée Jason Simpson next October.ENDS
