Erriyon Knighton, a 17-year-old adidas professional at junior at Hillsborough High in Florida, produced the fastest World Under-18 performance in history with his wind-legal effort of 20.04 seconds in the opening round of the men's 200 meters at the United States Olympic Team Trials at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Knighton lowered his own performance of 20.11 from May 31 in Jacksonville to also produce the fastest performance ever by a prep athlete as well as an American Under-20 all-time mark, eclipsing the 20.09 effort achieved by Noah Lyles at the 2016 Olympic Trials.
